The new Makira Ulawa Provincial Government led by Premier Julian Maka’a has threatened to do away with its commercial arm, the Makira Ulawa Province’s Investment Corporation.
The threat was discussed at the induction training workshop, now in its second week in Kira Kira for the newly elected Members of the Makira Ulawa Provincial Assembly and senior provincial officers.
Various speakers cited non-availability of financial reports on how MUPIC has been operating as the main reason for the call to do away with the provincial government’s commercial arm.
One assembly member told the training workshop that there are no reports of revenue earnings and expenses.
Our efforts to raise the issue with the General Manager of MUPIC Joe Au Ramosaea in Honiara have been unsuccessful.
