A five days Annual Planning Conference organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL) is underway in Honiara this week.
The conference commences this morning and will run until Friday 23rd May at the Honiara Hotel.
This year’s conference brought together ministry leaders, technical officers, and stakeholders to align strategies for the upcoming year under the theme: “Transforming Agriculture for Economic Growth.”
This conference will focus on critical areas such as policy review, strategic planning, institutional effectiveness, and enhancing implementation mechanisms across all ministry departments.
MAL Minister Franklyn Derek Wasi officially opened the conference delivering the keynote address, highlighting the essential role of agricultural transformation in promoting national development and economic resilience.
Each conference day will center around a specific theme, including:
Policy Review and Strategic Alignment
Budgeting and Planning for 2026
Governance and Institutional Effectiveness
Implementation Readiness
Consolidation and Way Forward
Sessions will encompass department work plan reviews, discussions on the Agriculture Sector Development Policy and E-Agriculture Strategy, updates on donor projects, proposals for restructuring, and the finalization of the 2026 budget strategy and operational plan.
The conference will wrap up on Friday with the endorsement of resolutions and a formal closing dinner to celebrate the collaborative efforts of all participants.
