Premier of Malaita Province, Elijah Asilaua, has called on the Solomon Islands Planned Parenthood Association (SIPPA) to expand its outreach services across the entire province.
Mr. Asilaua made the appeal during a meeting with SIPPA Executive Director Jack Martin in Auki on Thursday.
He commended SIPPA’s efforts, particularly in urban and peri-urban areas, but stressed the urgent need to extend these vital services to all five regions of Malaita to ensure equal access for rural and remote communities.
In his remarks, Premier Asilaua emphasized the alignment of SIPPA’s work with the provincial government’s health priorities, highlighting the importance of “Access to Quality Healthcare as a Right.”
“SIPPA’s programs have transformed lives in Malaita, but we must bridge the gaps in underserved regions,” he said.
“Together, we must ensure inclusiveness in all programs for every community in Malaita.”
The Premier pledged the provincial government’s full support to SIPPA and urged the organization to prioritize outreach to marginalized and hard-to-reach areas.
SIPPA Executive Director Jack Martin welcomed the Premier’s endorsement and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to partnership.
“This dialogue marks a pivotal step in scaling up our impact. With the province’s support, we aim to deploy mobile clinics, train community-based workers, and strengthen youth-friendly services across Malaita,” Mr. Martin stated.
SIPPA also outlined plans to leverage local networks and secure support to sustain the expansion of services.
Both parties agreed to collaborate on implementation efforts, including resource mobilization, community engagement, and monitoring frameworks.
SIPPA plays a critical role in delivering sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services, including family planning, maternal health support, HIV/AIDS prevention, and youth outreach programs.
