THE Malaita Provincial Executive has approved $1.9million to counter the COVID-19 situation in Malaita Province.
Speaking to Solomon Star Auki this afternoon (Wednesday 26th January), Premier Daniel Suidani said the decision was made during an extraordinary meeting held on Monday this week.
Premier Suidani said the money is mainly to support the Provincial Disaster Operation Centre (PDOC) to counter COVID-19 situation in Malaita.
The premier said the money will support PDOC with logistics, and preparation of quarantine accommodation should infection rate rises and more people get sick with the COVID-19 virus.
Asked whether the Malaita Provincial Government will transfer the money to PDOC, he said the money will be administered by MPG and will be released based upon requests from PDOC.
Besides passing the $1.9M budget, the MARA executive also agreed for communities to fast and pray two days a week for the province as COVID-19 community transmission rises.
The two days are; Sunday and Wednesday each week.
Mr Suidani also discouraged Malaitans from congregating in big numbers to avoid the risk of spreading the virus from person to person and urged everyone to adhere to the COVID-19 safety rules.
