A three day celebration to mark Malaita day will take place this week starting on Thursday.
This was announced by the Chairman of the Malaita Day Committee, Redley Raramo, during a press conference held at the Harbour View Lounge in Guzo Point, Bahai, Honiara on Monday.
The three-day event is scheduled to run from Thursday August 14 to 16, with a float parade organized for Friday, coinciding with the kickoff of various cultural events.
He also highlighted that the activities will mainly focus on customary dances and traditional practices to revive history and culture, ensuring that everyone learns about traditional costumes and chants.
The committee extended invitations to other sister provinces to join in the celebration.
“We want to embrace the Solomon Islands’ unity in diversity and encourage other sister provinces to participate in the celebration.”
On Mondat he also announced the theme for this year’s Malaita Day celebration.
He has described the theme as a roadmap for Malaita’s journey forward. “This theme reflects who we are and where we are going,” he said.
“Faith guides our decisions, culture grounds our identity, and unity helps us overcome every challenge.”
He emphasized that this year’s theme is both important and practical, as it establishes faith as the fundamental basis for driving progress. He referred to the preamble guiding the establishment of the democratic sovereign state of the Solomon Islands, asserting that their belief in God directs their path and destination for the country.
Raramo’s address served as a call to action, urging all Malaitans to embrace the theme not only during the celebration but also in their daily lives. “Let this be the year we rise not just in song and dance, but in leadership, service, and sacrifice,” he declared.
