A MALAITAN says the province needs visionary leaders and not self-serving ones.
Eddie Ofote’e made the statement as the province and nation prepare to go to the polls this year.
Mr Ofote’e said intended candidates from Malaita must spell out their plans and vision for the province before they can contest.
“Contesting without any vision or setting your plans for your province is a total waste of time,” he said.
“Those who want to contest must have the priority first for the province,” he added.
Mr Ofote’e suggested that Malaitan leaders should form one political party.
“This is for the purpose of developing the province.
“It does not look good to see other provinces continue to develop their provinces while our province remained behind.
“It has been revealed that a lot of development and ground breaking that have taken place in various provinces apart from Malaita, a lot of Malaita leaders are there to witness and having so they did not do any good for their own province.
“This is not good and Malaitans should be ashamed of their state their province is in.
“This is why we need visionary leaders who have plans and visions to develop the province and its constituencies,” he added.
Mr Ofote’e said one of the major problems we are facing now is urban migration.
“This is one of the problems that leaders of Malaita both national and provincial have over-looked.
“If one could say, endemic problems in Honiara are often attributed to Malaitans.
“It’s time all Malaitan leaders, both national and provincial level come out of their political caves and start looking seriously at a roadmap for the province.
“Our migration to other provinces is becoming an obvious pain in the neck both for the host community and for the country.
“We need leaders who have visions and who will put heads together to find ways to develop Malaita and not fill up their own pockets.”
