Investors, development partners show lack of interest
MOST of the proposed national projects earmarked by the government for Malaita province may soon be canceled due to lack of interest by investors.
This was revealed by the Provincial Minister for Development Planning of Malaita Provincial Government Glen Waneta.
He was speaking to a small group of people in ward 8, Malaita province last Sunday.
Mr Waneta said, this was made known to the Malaita Provincial Government last Thursday by the ‘Think Tank Task Force’ from the Office of the Prime Minister.
Mr Waneta said the visit to the Malaita province by the taskforce last week was aimed at seeking a model to develop Malaita as there were no other assistance available to implement the proposed projects.
Reports reaching the paper last night, said the provincial minister also informed the people that the reason for the cancellation of all proposed projects was because no development partners or investors have indicated their interest to invest in Malaita.
He added, the only national project that is forthcoming is the proposed ‘Fiu Hydro Electrification Project.’
Mr Waneta said, the Prime Minister Office had given 70 days for Malaita Provincial Government to respond with a development model for the province.
After their discussion last week, Mr Waneta said, they (Malaita province) presented a development model to the task force and have given 60 days for the Democratic Coalition for Change Government (DCCG) to respond.
Attempts to get comments from the Prime Ministers Office last night on the issue was unsuccessful.
