Malaitans based in Honiara gathered at DC Park, Malango Ward on Friday to commemorate the 42nd Appointed Day Anniversary.
The three-day event commenced on Thursday and concluded on Saturday based on the theme; “Guided by Faith, Rooted in Culture, United for Change,” featured traditional dances, food displays, and cultural exhibitions.
The highlight of the event was on Friday during a parade.
Redley Raramo, Chairman of the Honiara-based committee in his speech on Friday, paid tribute to past leaders and emphasized the importance of cultural foundations in today’s rapidly changing world.
“The theme is significant at this time, when policies are influenced by competing ideologies and moral values are shifting swiftly.
“In this digital age, where truth and falsehood can spread at lightning speed, we must remain grounded in our faith and culture,” he stated.
The guest of honor, Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Fredrick Kologeto, praised the resilience of the people of Malaita in his address and emphasized the importance of cultural and spiritual values in shaping national progress.
“Our indigenous knowledge is not a relic of the past; it serves as a blueprint for the future.
“Let us learn from it and use it as a springboard for positive change,” he said.
He outlined the government’s four policy pillars: unity, sustainability, economic transformation, and infrastructure development, assuring continued support for Malaita and other provinces through increased budget allocations and strategic programs.
“The resilience and industrious spirit of the Malaita people remain a source of strength for all Solomon Islanders. Let us embrace today not just as a celebration but as a call to action—guided by faith, rooted in culture, and united for change.”
Meanwhile, the poor turn out of Malaitans during the event on Friday was disappointing for some people who expressed their concern via the social media.
In Malaita, most of the wards had their own celebration.
