The people of Zone 1 in Ward 9, North Malaita, are reaping the benefits of much-needed development assistance through the Ward Development Grant.
This ongoing support, spearheaded by the Provincial Member and the Ward 9 Development Committee, has seen the successful implementation of multiple infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing community living standards.
The projects, now in various stages of completion, are vital to addressing key priority areas.
These included;
Solar Lighting: Households in Zone 1 are now benefiting from solar-powered lighting, providing reliable and sustainable energy, reducing reliance on costly fuel, and enhancing nighttime safety and productivity.
Piggery Infrastructure: The new infrastructure supports local pig farming, creating opportunities for agricultural growth and economic improvement for local farmers and families.
Water Supply: Improved access to clean and safe water has been made possible, alleviating the long-standing issue of water scarcity in the community.
Fishing Aggregate Device (FAD): The deployment of a fishing aggregate device will boost local fishing efforts, strengthening food security and providing a new source of income for community fishermen.
Water Dam Project: In partnership with the Malathawa & Silolo Community Water Dam Project, materials have been purchased to construct a vital water dump on the highlands of Silolo, which will help secure a reliable water supply for the surrounding communities.
Provincial Member and Ward 9 Development Committee representatives have expressed their gratitude for the support from the Ward Development Grant, stating that these projects are only the beginning of ongoing efforts to uplift the region and ensure long-term development.
The completion of these projects is expected to significantly improve the quality of life for the people of Zone 1 and encourage further collaboration with donor partners to ensure that development in North Malaita continued.
