A man who attacked another man using a spoon in Reko Village, Savo Islands, has been sentenced to one year and three months in prison.
Andrew Suguradi pleaded guilty to Assault Causing Actual Bodily Harm during a court circuit in Tulagi, Central Islands Province, early this week.
He was initially charged with Unlawful Wounding, which he denied, but the charge was later reduced due to the absence of a medical report to support the original allegation.
The incident occurred on 1 January 2025, when Suguradi allegedly held a spoon in his right hand and stabbed the victim on the left side of the neck using the rounded end, causing bodily harm. Police arrested Suguradi following the incident.
During sentencing, Principal Magistrate Michael considered case authorities, circumstances of the offence, and aggravating and mitigating factors before imposing the 13-month prison term.
Following the incident, reconciliation took place, and $100 compensation was paid to the complainant.
Suguradi was represented by Jayson Anisi of the Public Solicitor’s Office, while Public Prosecutor Jeremy Oiofa appeared for the Crown.
