A 25- YEAR-OLD man accused of stealing about $300,000 from a parked vehicle at China Town, Honiara, in August this year, will enter his plea on October 29.
Evenson Fangarongo faces one count of Simple Larceny.
His case was mentioned on Wednesday in the Honiara Magistrate Court, where the prosecution was ordered to provide disclosures to the defence counsel before close of business.
The disclosures will assist the defence in preparing the accused for plea on the next court date.
The alleged incident occurred on 31 August between 10 am and 11.30am.
The complainant parked her vehicle in front of the New Flavour Shop, opposite the Mataniko Clinic and went to collect payment for goods delivered to various shops in Honiara.
She reportedly forgot to lock her vehicle and left to do payment collection, and it was then that accused allegedly opened the vehicle, took a paper case containing between $290,000 and $300,000 in cash, and fled towards the Koa Hill area.
The monies were payments collected from other shops.
The complainant attempted to pursue the accused, but was unsuccessful.
A formal report was later lodged at the Central Police Station.
Police investigations revealed that Fangarongo had escaped to Hagalu in the Central Islands Province.
Tulagi Police later assisted in apprehending him and escorting him back to Honiara, where he was formally arrested and placed in custody.
On 16 September, Police Response Team (PRT) and Central Police CID conducted a search at a home in Koa Hill following some information received and recovered $39,950, which has been kept as an exhibit.
The accused was interviewed and exercised his right to remain silent.
Wally Hatingongo of the Public Solicitor’s Office represents Fangarongo, while Police Prosecutor Philip Muliungu appears for the Crown.
