Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) President Donald Marahare has applauded the growing standard of the SIFF Super Futsal League, which concluded earlier this week.
Speaking during the league’s prize presentation, Marahare said the recent success of the Solomon Islands national futsal team, the Kurukuru, reflects the progress and standard of the country’s top-tier futsal competition.
“I am so pleased, on behalf of SIFF, to see how far we have come in our futsal leagues. The recent performance and achievements of the Kurukuru are a reflection of where we are and the level our futsal league has reached,” he said.
Marahare stressed that this is only the beginning, urging all stakeholders not to become complacent.
“It is only the beginning. We should not be complacent with the challenge now is to take the league to another level,” he added.
He also highlighted that SIFF is looking into ways to support futsal clubs more effectively.
“On behalf of the Federation, I see it as everyone’s responsibility. To the clubs in particular, I understand many of you spend from your own pockets and resources to maintain your teams and compete in this league.
“One of the things SIFF is now looking at is how to assist clubs in ways that can build their capacity, which in turn will help players lift their standards and the overall quality of the league,” he said.
Looking ahead to the FIFA Futsal World Cup in 2028, Marahare reminded everyone that preparations must begin now for the upcoming qualifiers.
“I want to thank all clubs for your contributions towards the Kurukuru. Although we have some time before the World Cup qualifiers, time moves fast.
“After Kurukuru’s recent triumph at the OFC Futsal Men’s Cup, we must build on that momentum and move forward,” he said.
“We have to keep the team, both players and management together for the qualifiers. It won’t be easy, and it will be expensive, but this is something we are committed to doing.”
Marahare also acknowledged all partners and stakeholders for their continued support in the development of futsal and concluded by emphasizing that it is everyone’s role to take the particular football code to the next level.
Dawn FC were crowned champions of the 2025 SIFF Super Futsal League, with Salt FC finishing as runners-up. Strides FC settled for third place, while Matakz FC finished fourth.
