Opposition Leader Matthew Wale encourages Solomon Islands youths to take interest in governance, leadership and national development during a visit to White River School.
Leader of Opposition Matthew Wale has encouraged young people to take a greater interest in the governance and future of the Solomon Islands.
Mr Wale made the call during a visit to White River School yesterday, where he highlighted the important role youths play in national affairs.
He said the active participation of young people is essential to building a stronger, more accountable and democratic nation.
“Young people make up a large proportion of our population. Their voices, ideas and energy are essential in shaping the future direction of our country,” Mr Wale said.
The Opposition Leader encouraged students to stay informed about national issues, understand how government decisions affect their lives, and take part in constructive discussions on policy, leadership and development.
“Governance is not only the responsibility of politicians. It is the responsibility of every citizen, especially our young people who will inherit the country tomorrow,” he said.
Mr Wale also urged youths to take advantage of opportunities to learn about leadership, civic responsibility and public service. He said informed and engaged young people play an important role in strengthening democracy and ensuring leaders remain accountable.
He added that fostering a culture where young people actively participate in discussions on national development would help the Solomon Islands make better decisions for future generations.
“Your ideas matter. Your voice matters. The future of our nation depends on the interest and involvement of its young people today,” he said.
Mr Wale reaffirmed his commitment to engaging with young people and supporting initiatives that promote civic awareness, leadership development and active participation in national life.
Staff and students at the school expressed admiration for the visit, describing the Opposition Leader as one of the country’s most respected leaders.
