The Quality Assurance and Control Unit of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) is collaborating closely with local contractors to oversee and ensure the successful execution of the ongoing improvement works at Friendship Hall, Panatina, East Honiara.
This quality assurance team with the backing of MID’s laboratory ensures all works are rigorously tested and verified, such as slump tests on concrete patches for consistency, durability, and meeting the designed specifications.
Two officers from this unit are embedded with the four contractors who were assigned lots at Friendship Hall, marking the government’s preparation for the upcoming Pacific Islands Leaders meeting next month.
Lot 1: Road & drainage improvement (EMCO Pacific SI Limited)
Lot 2 & 3: Drainage East and South (SINBAD Construction)
Lot 4: Extension of Fence Line (RJ & Associate)
This lab officer’s designation to the work site demonstrates the government’s control measures as captured in the recently passed National Building Standard Bill that focuses on reinforcing safety practices and quality craftsmanship in our growing building industry.
MID’s Director of Transport Infrastructure Management Services Division, Ishmael Alulu, also remind local contractors and concrete suppliers that quality monitoring of all concrete works will be intensified going forward.
MID’s Electrical Unit, under the Architect and Building Management Services Division (ABMSD), is also providing supervision roles for electrical upgrades and installation of a permanent solar hybrid cooling system at Friendship Hall and two other venues—the Aquatic Center and King George Sixth School Eastern Precinct Multi-Purpose Hall.
Also, MID’s Land Transport Management Services Division (LTMSD) is supporting this upcoming meeting by planning logistical arrangements.
