The West Kwaraáe ward 3 soccer league champion GB United went down 3-1 to the underdogs Ailako FC in the Auki Soccer league over the weekend.
GB United being dubbed as one of the favourites by spectators suffered a surprising defeat to give the boys from Bio, Buma and Gwaunaoa communities a lot to think about.
Ailako rolled to a 2 -0 lead in the second half after having played out a nil all in the first half.
GB United fought extra hard to register a goal towards the end of the second half froma Roland Timi’s header.
GB United eventually got an equaliser only to be ruled offside by the referee. Despite the GB’s challenges, Ailako continued pressurising the GB defenders.
In a last ditch attempt to salvage a draw GB United pushed all 11 players up only to be caught on the counter in which Ailako FC got their third and final goal which also marked the final play of the game.
GB United is the champion of West Kwara’ae ward 3 soccer league in Malaita province.
Ailako FC team coach expressed his satisfaction and joy with a smile after the match.
He said his boy played a very satisfactory game despite encountering challenges from GB United in the first half of the match.
“I like to thank my boys for the believing in themselves.”
He said Ailako will continue to maintain its best in the Auki league.
