The Mile 6 Cattle Farm Project in West Gizo, Western Province has received an increased allocation in the Western Provincial Government’s revised 2025/2026 budget, but the Minister for Agriculture, Hon. Jenty Isaac, said more funding is still needed to fully realize the project’s potential.
Under the revised recurrent budget, the Agriculture Division has been allocated $280,556, while an additional $377,040 has been reallocated from the Nusa Banga Water Supply Project to the Mile 6 Farm Project, bringing its total funding to $677,040.
Provincial Finance Minister Hon. Ronnie Ghemu revealed the figures on Tuesday in his revised budget speech during the Western Provincial Assembly sitting in Gizo.
He explained that the reallocation was made to comply with the 42% economic sector threshold, ensuring the province meets national funding requirements while supporting productive rural development.
“The Mile 6 Farm has a lot of potential that we can utilize well,” the provincial agriculture stated, adding that further investment is crucial to transform the farm into a sustainable agricultural hub for the province.
