The Ministry of Traditional Governance Peace and Ecclesiastical Affairs (MTGPEA) in collaboration with the youth and sport division in Choiseul province successfully held a two-day peace building and mindset training workshop for youth leaders in northeast Choiseul.
The event held fortnight ago at Northeast Choiseul Constituency Development Centre brought together 12 youth leaders representing the four wards within the district; Katario, Senga, Kerepaqara and Kiruqela.
Facilitating the workshop was MTGPEA deputy director for Choiseul province, Danielle Vozoto.
The program was aimed at empowering youth leaders to become responsible peace building citizens and provide practical knowledge of facilitating local peace process in communities.
Speaking at the workshop opening, Vozoto emphasized the critical role of youth in maintaining social stability.
“This training will equip our youths with the essential skills for peace process in their respective communities.
“It will also help our young leaders to participate in and engage with peace building activities within their wards,” Vozoto stated

She said that training youth leaders is vital for fostering economic development, improving community relationships throughout the province.
Fredrick Ila, youth president for Senga ward, hailed the workshop as a success and way forward for youth leaders in northeast Choiseul.
“This workshop has helped us to learn about the four types of mindset namely, rocky, thorny, pathway, and fertile mindset,” he said.
“Many of our youths today are victims of pathway mindset, their dreams and talents are destroyed by criticism and devaluation statements from family and the public.
“Young people are often subjected to negative comments in our communities, which traps their ability and confidence to progress,” Ila stated.
Vozoto acknowledged the Choiseul Provincial Government (CPG) youth and sport division for financial support, recognizing their commitment to youth development in the province.
