The Solomon Islands Country Gender Assessment is headed by the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs and funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
“It is my great pleasure to participate in the celebration of the International Women’s Day 2016 and to launch the country gender assessment report,” Ms Tuki said.
The launching of this important report is a fitting tribute to the realization of this International Women’s Day theme: “Promise to Fairness, Zero Discrimination,” she added.
She said that Country Gender Assessment (CGA) was done upon the request of the Ministry.
“It is an effort to address the ongoing need for reliable information to assist government see where Solomon Islands has made progress towards equality under the five key priority outcomes of the Gender Equality and Women’s Development Policy (GEWD) and how best priority areas of concern under each of these outcomes could best be addressed,” Minister Tuki added.
She said that development of the CGAs comprised of gender focal points from selected Ministries and representatives from development agencies provided oversight to CGA, reviewed draft of the document, and guided the consultation process.
The assessment also had input from other government agencies, civil society and development partners.
The Minister said that there are more findings in the report that will help the ministry and stakeholders to understanding what is going on in the country and implementing through relevant mechanism.
Minister Tuki would like to thank the women who attend to witness the launching and celebrate the Women’s day yesterday.
May you all enjoy your day today.
