The Minister of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL), Hon. Franklyn Derek Wasi is on a five day official visit to Makira-Ulawa Province (MUP) this week.
The delegation traveled to Kira Kira on Tuesday morning. Upon their arrival they received a warm welcome in Kirakira as to commence his official five-day visit.
Minister Wasi who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for East Makira also met with the Makira Ulawa Provincial Executive on Tuesday and discussed various issues with the provincial leaders.
At the discussion the provincial leaders praised the Solomon Islands Agricultural Transformation (SIAT) program which helped to boost cocoa and copra production in the province and the country as a whole.
It was highlighted that supporting the two sectors had helped to improve cash flow for rural farmers and communities.
During his first day of tour, the minister and his delegation toured the proposed site for a new ministry complex and staff housing in Kirakira.
Minister Wasi assured leaders and farmers that the national government remains committed to strengthening agriculture and supporting rural livelihoods across the province.
Minister Wasi is accompanied by some of his top ministry officials.
The delegation is expected back in Honiara on Saturday.
