Skyline American war memorial vandalised
The front gate of the American war memorial monument at Skyline, Central Honiara has been ripped off and vandalised by thugs yesterday morning.
The unfortunate incident has been described as shameful and disrespectful, by an eye witness spoken to at the scene.
The witness who wants her name withheld for security reasons said they heard shouting coming from a group of boys.
She claimed stones may have been thrown at the security officers at the scene.
“We only heard shouting by group of boys that roam that road beside the monument in the early hours of this morning (yesterday) and they may have thrown stones at the security officer manning the monument.
“Then we heard loud noise banging at the front gate. We were surprise to see the entrance gate being pulled down.”
The Skyline resident said such actions is uncalled for and painted a bad picture of the youths and communities living around the monument.
“Our boys in the community have shown a really bad image because such important monument should be respected. This is an act of carelessness.”
For long the Skyline American memorial area has been a favourite drinking spot during night times and weekends for many youths.
