Twelve (12) Members of Parliament (MP) including eight government Ministers have reportedly resigned from the Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC) Government on Tuesday night.
Their resignation letters are expected to be delivered to the Government House today (Wednesday).
A source confirmed to the Solomon Star around mid night last night that the 12 MPs included 8 senior Government Ministers and four back benchers.
This is likely to increase the Opposition and the Independent sides.
One of the letters cited by the Solomon Star stated that pursuant to section 34(6) of the Constitution the Ministers having serve as Minister of Crown no longer have confidence in the Prime Minister.
The letter stated that the style of leadership demonstrated by the Prime Minister has made it difficult for them to continue serve under his leadership in the DCC Government.
Our source said, with the resignation of the 12 MPs, they will merge with the 15 Opposition and Independent group to strengthen the Opposition group with a majority number of 27.
A notice of motion of no confidence is expected to be submitted to the clerk of Parliament when the Parliament meeting resumes today.
Meanwhile unconfirmed reports last night also claimed a number of Opposition MPs have switched sides to join the DCC led government.
The current political turmoil continue to intensify, following the resignation of former Deputy Prime Minister Douglas Ete on Sunday.
Its understood more updates are likely to be made today as the number game to form a new government continues in light of a looming no confidence motion against the current government led by Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare.
