A local literacy trainer has encouraged teachers to strengthen literacy learning in their schools to allow students to write and speak English well.
Felistus Fafoi of the league literacy office (LLO) made the call at closing of the three day literacy workshop yesterday at the Solomon Islands national library.
“Primary schools in the country need to strengthen the literature learning so that students can write and speak good English,” she said.
Its important that students write more in English as well as speaking it.
“We should strengthen literacy programs in our schools by encouraging students to speak more English languages when in and outside the class and even at home.
“The way we continue to encourage them with English, the more they will understand other subjects in their school,” Ms Fafio said.
Children should be encouraged to speak English at home, she added.
“We are responsible to teach and learn children the basics of speaking English in schools,” she said.
