Dear Editor – I am writing my thoughts on addressing the issue of Nepotism in Solomon Islands. Nepotism can contribute to weak governance and unfairness within public services. Solomon Islands practice these wantok networks throughout ages, where leaders gave opportunities to their relatives in favoritism, rather than to those who are qualified.
This actually erodes our leader’s public trust. Which brings inequality and unfairness in our nation. As a DG100 student studying Leadership Governance and Human Rights, I definitely urge Solomon Islands government and leaders to view these issue and implement better ways to solve it.
By prioritizing fairness and transparency in employment regulations. And ensure appointments and positions are given to eligible individuals who are qualified. Ultimately, by upholding rights of Solomon Islanders, we can make a more equitable nation for everyone.
Sincerely,
