A NEWLY completed church building at Kaokaoragana village, Central Makira, was officially dedicated and opened last Sunday.
Dedicated as Holy Cross church, it is an Anglican church, with initial construction work started way back in 2008 under a special scheme by former Member of Parliament for Central Makira Constituency.
Under the scheme, a special arrangement was made with land owners to have concessions of the logging royalty payments to be allocated to build and improve churches and clinics in the constituency.
It was reported that the scheme somehow came to a halt few years back when the financier, the logging company operating in the district then left after its licensed term expired.
Central Makira Constituency officer, Gravis Tahiri told Solomon Star that the church building was finally completed with $40,000 assistance from the current MP for Central Makira Constituency,Nestor Ghiro.
Mr Tahiri explained Government allocates $200,000 each year to each constituency towards assisting churches.
The new church building was consecrated by the Diocesan Bishop of Hanuato’o Diocese, Alfred Karibongi.
He said the dedication had combined other religious ceremonies such as confirmation of new communionists, the Bishop’s visit to the region, and the Saints Day being celebrated..
A 100 watts solar panel system was also donated to the church.
Mr.Tahiri also thanked the MP for West Makira Constituency, Derick Manu’ari for assisting them in the event with food items and morale support.
