Prime Minister (PM) Jeremiah Manele has acknowledged the continued support of the Chinese community and the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in strengthening development cooperation across the country.
Speaking at the handover ceremony of a newly established police post held at Chung Wah School on Monday March 4, 2026, the Prime Minister thanked the organisers and hosts of the event, including the Solomon Islands Chinese Association (SICA), Solomon Islands Business Council, Solomon Islands Chinese Women’s Association and members of the Chinese community.

He also conveyed appreciation to the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Solomon Islands, Cai Weiming, and staff of the Chinese Embassy for their continued support to the Government and people of Solomon Islands across many sectors.
Prime Minister Manele further thanked the administration, teachers, staff and students of Chung Wah School for providing the venue for both the police post and the lantern festival celebration.
“We deeply appreciate your leadership and support,” he said.

Meanwhile, President of the Solomon Islands Chinese Association, Mr Henry Kwan, described Ambassador Chai’s leadership as instrumental in strengthening the bridge of friendship between Solomon Islands and China.
“Through open dialogue, mutual respect and practical cooperation, the ties between our two nations have grown deeper and more dynamic,” Mr Kwan said.
He stressed that security is the foundation for development, noting that when people feel safe, businesses can grow, families can thrive and communities can live together in harmony.
Mr Kwan said the police post represents a shared belief that peace and security are everyone’s responsibility.

On behalf of the Solomon Islands Chinese Association, he formally handed over the police post to the Government and the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force, expressing hope that it will serve the people with dedication, professionalism and integrity for many years to come.
The ceremony underscored the growing cooperation between Solomon Islands and China, particularly in initiatives that promote community safety and national development.
