A Seghe Administration Office in Ward 21, Bunitusu, Marovo Lagoon, Western Province has been completed.
The Western Provincial Government (WPG) announced the official completion of the project.
The Seghe Administration Office was funded through the Provincial Capacity Development Fund (PCDF) and co-funded by the Solomon Islands Government (SIG), the Integrated Economic Development and Community Resilience (IEDCR) program, and the Western Provincial Government (WPG).
An official handover ceremony is scheduled for September 2025.
The project represents a significant milestone in strengthening governance and improving public service delivery in the Marovo region.
Once operational, the facility will function as a central hub for administrative coordination, government outreach, and community engagement in the surrounding areas.
Speaking to Solomon Star, Hon. Edward Ngava, Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) for Ward 21, highlighted the historical and ongoing significance of Seghe in regional governance.
“Seghe was established as a government sub-station in the 1980s following independence, under the three-tier governance system introduced through area councils.
Although the area councils were dissolved in 1999, Seghe retained its role as a sub-station and continues to serve as a vital government link in the region,” Hon. Ngava explained.
He noted the fast-paced development occurring in Seghe, which is positioning the area as a future mini-township.
“Seghe already hosts a range of key government services including; forestry, agriculture, education, and police.
“Additionally, there is a presence of Solomon Power, a theological seminary, a mini-hospital, and a rural training center operated by the United Church of Solomon Islands,” he said.
Hon. Ngava emphasized that the Marovo Constituency is home to the largest population in the Western Province and is one of the major suppliers of fish to Honiara.
He also pointed out that Marovo is a growing tourism hub, with a variety of resorts and homestays attracting both local and international visitors.
“With the recent upgrade to Seghe Airport and the planned construction of a new terminal, there is a growing need for improved infrastructure and services, including the establishment of a banking facility to support economic activities and tourism in the area,” he added.
The recent groundbreaking for the new Seghe Market early this year, funded by the Australian Government, further underscores Seghe’s increasing importance as a center for economic growth and local development.
The opening of the Seghe Administration Office is expected to significantly improve government coordination and responsiveness in Ward 21 and surrounding communities.
A high level of delegation from the Solomon Islands Government and other distinguished are expected to attend the official handover and opening ceremony.
