The Tetepare conservation island in the Western province will join the rest of the world through internet and mobile services once Our Telekom sets up a mobile tower there next month.
Allan Tipet Bero,Tetepare development programme coordinator told the Solomon Star yesterday that Our Telekom had approved their application.
This means a tower will be constructed and people on the island and the surrounding communities will be able to communicate to the outside world.
“Our Telekom officer in charge of Munda office had informed me that our 2011 application of mobile tower has been approved by Our Telekom,” Mr Bero said.
And next month Our Telekom engineers will travel to the island to inspect a site on the island to build the tower,” Mr Bero said.
The program coordinator said TDA had been overwhelmed and thanked Our Telekom for considering their application.
“We have been facing communication setback in terms of bookings and those who wanted to visit the island because we couldn’t access internet and mobile services on Tetepare Island.”
He said all communication activities are being conducted in Munda.
If the service is up and running it would improve their work and more visitors will be able to visit them.
He added that the service will not only service the island but other communities on southern Rendova.
With the news already received by the people, the communities are excited, Mr Bero said.
