Minister for Police, Correctional Services and National Security Stanley Sofu and Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Commissioner Matt Varley and RAMSI Special Coordinator Quinton Devlin have today officially opened the new state-of-the-art Tulagi Police Station. Also present at the opening was Provincial Premier the Honourable Patrick Vasuni.
The $7 million SBD complex is the culmination of 18-months work between the Solomon Islands Government and the RSIPF.
Minister of Police Stanley Sofu welcomed the new police station.
“I am very proud to be the guest of honour to receive this new police station from RAMSI.
“This is a big step forward for the RSIPF in Central Province and I am very proud of the officers here,” Minister Sofu said.
Commissioner of Police Matthew Varley said the new Tulagi Police Station is an important resource for the people of Central Islands Province.
“It is fantastic to be able to celebrate the official opening of the Tulagi Police Station. It provides a new facility for our valuable police officers to do their very important work to protect the community,” Commissioner Varley said.
“It will create a more conducive work environment for the 20 officers working in the region. I am pleased to see it is now fully operational,” he said.
The new facility includes administration areas, interview rooms, a cell block and a garage for boats.
Provincial Police Commander Patricia Leta will oversee the officers working in the new building.
Following the official opening the public were provided an opportunity to tour the facility.
This is the final new police station to be gifted to the RSIPF before RAMSI concludes.
