THE National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands (NOCSI) reveals that its annual funding it received from the Oceania Olympic Committee is US$85,000 which is equivalent to SBD$648,000.
This was revealed by NOCSI Vice President Solidarity Joe Ramosaea and was also confirmed by NOCSI President Martin Rara.
Ramosaea made the revelation after receiving complaints from several sporting federations on how the funding was used.
He admitted that annually NOCSI have received US$85,000 for its development programs like coaching, training, official duties and preparation of games but in order for the federations to receive the funding they must apply by submitting their proposals.
He said the funding can only be released to them after they apply and submitted their proposal.
He said NOSCI upon receiving their proposals will then processing them and sends them to their head offices in Fiji and Guam.
He said, usually it takes two weeks before the funding is approved from their head offices.
“We apply this process in order for us to submit our financial reports on how we spend the money to our head offices in Fiji and Guam,” Ramosaea said.
Currently the federations affiliated to NOCSI are Athletic Solomon, Solomon Islands Basketball Federation, Solomon Islands Rugby Union, Solomon Islands Judo Federation, Solomon Island Netball Federation, Solomon Islands Handball Federation, Solomon Islands Tennis Federation, Solomon Islands Body Building Federation, Solomon Islands Weightlifting Federation, Solomon Islands Boxing Association, Solomon Islands Football Federation, Solomon Islands Swimming Federation, Solomon Islands Wrestling Federation, Solomon Islands Volleyball Federation, Solomon Islands Taekwondo Federation, Solomon Islands Table Tennis Federation and Solomon Islands Triathlon Federation.
He said currently the funding is not in use because the federations did not send their applications or proposals to NOCSI.
He said that the federations must submit their applications for funding to NOCSI and not complaining over others who have applied and received financially support through NOCSI.
President of NOCSI Martin Rara also explained that the process to receive the funding is, the federations have to apply to NOCSI and they will submit it to their head offices in Fiji and Guam.
“So far some of the applications are already sent which have been accepted while others are on the waiting list,” Rara said.
He said that the approval of applications is depending entirely from their head offices in Fiji and Guam.
