Dear Editor – Recently we hear that the National Government is planning to relocate the National Referral Hospital to a more suitable site. This is a very commendable move for the long term safety and sustainability of the hospital and its uninterrupted services to our people.
When the relocation actually takes place, I make strong plea the Prime Minister , Hon. Manasseh Soqavare and the DCC Government, Mayor and government of HTC, MInister of Lands and Commissioner of Lands to reserve the vacated area to build a PEOPLES PARK for the enjoyment of all the residents of Honiara rather than sell to other interests.
The PEOPLES PARK should be well planned with the aim of making people healthy and enjoy the natural attributes of the site. It should include open spaces planted with trees, facilities that promote fitness, such as small space sports, keep fit as well as eateries and so on, that cater for interest of all ages.
I think this is the best way to use of the place once the NRH is moved elsewhere.
I encourage all Honiara citizens, NGO, and the social media to discuss and impress this on the current government and the relevant authorities.
Let us mobilise now and put the interest and health of our people and future generation before it is too late.
Thank you.
Moses Pelomo
