The Solomon Islands National Sports Council (NSC) is mourning the death of its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), David Firisua who died in the capital Honiara on Tuesday.
The National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands (NOCSI), the Ministry of Home Affairs Sports department and national sports federations (NFs) shared their condolences with Firisua’s family.
Speaking to Star Sports on Wednesday NOCSI president, Martin Rara described Firisua as a man who has worked hard and is determined to lead the way forward for sports in the country.
“On behalf of the NOCSI family members I send our sympathy to his wife, children, relatives and colleagues who will be missing him from today.
“It is a sad experience for the entire NOCSI family members to hear the sudden passing away.
“He will always be remembered as a true friend, a leader and a positive image for sports in this country,” the NOCSI president said.
The Late Firisua had played a key role in the promotion of Solomon Islands Sports for the past years where sport was used as a tool of peace building.
This has helped many young athletes and sports federations to help promote sports and use it as a tool to bring togetherness despite various differences from ethnic backgrounds.
Firisua was also the president of the Solomon Islands Weightlifting Federation (SIWF).
