THE Parliamentary Opposition Group has acknowledged the Prime Minister’s stance in taking a tough stand against the alleged sexual harassment claims in his office.
In a statement yesterday, the Opposition Group whilst welcoming the Prime Minister’s stand on the issue, challenged him to immediately suspend the parties involved whilst thorough investigation must also proceed.
“The person(s) involved must be suspended with immediate effect to maintain the integrity of the office and to show the Prime Minister’s seriousness in tackling this issue,” it said.
The statement said the fact that these sexual harassment claims involve three different women in the Office of the Prime Minister & Cabinet is not only serious but disgraceful.
Meanwhile, the Opposition Group questioned why it has taken a month for the Prime Minister to take action since the letter was dated January 29th 2016.
“If it wasn’t for the media, these claims would be swept under the carpet. The Prime Minister could have taken action forthwith then to gain some respect and integrity rather than allowing the issue to prematurely leak to the media which has really tainted a bad picture of the officials and advisors working alongside the Prime Minister,” it said.
