HONIARA Integrate Primary School (HIPS) has been ordered to relocate somewhere or will be forced to move out from the land it is currently located.
Honiara City Mayor Andrew Mua in an interview with the Solomon Star recently said the current site where the school is situated near the sport facilities at Multipurpose Hall belongs to the Honiara City Council (HCC).
He explained HIPS school was evicted from its initial location and was allowed by HCC to set up temporarily at its current site while looking for a new area for permanent relocation.
“The school instead of searching for a free land somewhere continue to build at the current location and are now claiming the land,” he said.
City Mayor said the owner of the school as well as its administration failed to respect HCC, for having mercy on them to operate temporarily on the land, while looking for a permanent relocation somewhere.
He said the land which HIPS school is located has been earmarked by HCC to develop, in preparation for the 2023 South Pacific Games (SPG).
Mua said that is the reason they have to dismantle the market house erected near the main road because they expect the school to relocate somewhere.
“Instead they continue to extend their activities into other areas without informing HCC,” the Mayor said.
Mr Mua reiterated the school must relocated soon. “Or HCC will force them to move, so that development can take place over that area,” he said.
