Henry Palusi, of East Wainoni in Makira snatched a gold medal and a trophy during the Our Telekom Banana 8 kilometer road race, Friday.
Mr Palusi when interviewed said, despite of his disability, he continues to carry on with his passion in running.
“Despite of my hearing problem, I continue to make names in local athletics, which I am so passionate about.”
Mr Palusi has been making names in local athletics like Solomon Games, Easter road race and fun run.
“I was selected to go to New Caledonia Pacific Games some years back, but because of my disability in hearing, I was disqualified.”
Robertson Szetu of Our Telekom Sales and marketing department encouraged Makira runners to keep up with their performance.
“Makira has many potential runners that were unexposed. Do take part in these events so that we can identify potential one.”
Those who snatched prizes of both road relay and road race are current and former students trained by the veteran national long distance runner Primo Higa, who continued to make names internationally in 90’s.
“I always felt my tears, when I hear about our athletics under performing when abroad.”
He said that he is coaching his boys and looking forwards for the next Pacific Games.
“We are eyeing the next Pacific games.”
