MORE than 10 students from seven primary schools within Guadalcanal have successfully participated in a one-day Protectim Pikinini forum hosted at the Iron Bottom Sound (IBS) in Honiara this week.
The forum was organised by Save the Children under the project Protectim Pikinini mainly for the primary students to come out speak on issue affecting their lives at schools.
“Thank you everyone both students and teachers for your effective participation in this forum,” acting project manager Jack Mamae said.
He said its very interesting and to hear from the students speaking out what they faced up with in their schools every day.
“Most of the things being highlighted are real issues and authorities should take up their responsibilities to address them immediately.”
Issues raise by the students are;
· Lack of good classroom buildings
· Lack of proper sanitations
· Lack of clean drinking water
· Careless driving cause fear to the students and etc.
However, some students even mentioned that police awareness is needed most in their communities mainly on drugs.
“We sometimes are disturbed by drunkards who made a lot unnecessary noise in our communities,” one student from Lunga school said.
During the forum most students have presented that water and good sanitation are the most important things that authorities must address.
The project integrates child protection with early childhood interventions to strengthen child protection and education system at national and community levels in the country.
It is to ensuring children growing up in protective environments that enable them to realize their full potential.
