Plans to establish an annual events calendar incorporating many of the Solomon Islands cultural, musical and sporting events have taken a major step forward following a successful meeting between the Ministry of Culture & Tourism (MCT), Tourism Solomons and event organisers on Thursday.
Chaired by MCT Director of Tourism, Greg Auta’a at the national tourist office’s Honiara headquarters, the agenda focused on how MCT and Tourism Solomons can support organisers in their efforts to promote their events.
This includes providing assistance with improved coordination, early engagement and enhanced marketing efforts while also exploring practical ways enabling organisers and regional tourism authorities to better align planning timelines.
A key outcome of the meeting was a shared commitment to work together towards developing a practical events blueprint intended to help guide future planning and collaboration in tandem with a strong marketing approach.
Event organisers in attendance included Cedrick William and Noel Nelu representing the Tinakula Festival; Zaccheus Sepo and Bernard Kemakeza representing Central Islands Province Tourism Association and organisers of a proposed Megapode Festival; Guadalcanal Tourism Officer, Jacinta Koli Vagha who is looking to establish a Hotomai cultural event.
Adrian Tuhanuku and Erick Chow representing the Oceania Rugby 7s and related music and entertainment support; Lynette Adomea representing the annual Bonfire Festival, and Walter Leo representing the Aela Riddim Music Festival also attended the meeting.
