Prime Minister (PM) Manasseh Sogavare arrived yesterday from Papua New Guinea (PNG) after on a two weeks overseas tour, attending important regional meetings.
In his arrival last Sunday PM was warmly welcomed by the strong supporters of West Papua freedom campaigners, who commended the stand made by Sogavare during the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) meeting on the Indonesian colonised territory.
PM left the country two weeks ago for the Pacific Islands Development Forum (PIDF) meeting in Suva, Fiji and later travelled to PNG for the PIF which ended last week.
He arrived back with his delegation yesterday at the Henderson airport, where Merdeka campaigners showed up to greet his arrival.
PM was highlighted in the paper for his bold stand to defend West Papua freedom movement, by recommending a fact-finding mission to the Indonesian province, and call for including the Melanesian region within the United Nations’ (UN) decolonisation list.
Comments flooding social media and the street of Honiara has shown huge support for PM and Member of Parliament (MP) for Aoke/Langalanga Matthew Wale in their stand for West Papua, despite pressure from bigger countries.
