The Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare has told the visiting Papua New Guinea-based Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, Wang Genhua that China could consider investing in appropriate technology areas in Solomon Islands.
He said his country needs investors who can invest their money in appropriate technology transfers such as telecommunications technology, rural electrification and in food processing technology.
Mr Sogavare acknowledged that China is Solomon Islands number one trading partner as it buys all its logs as a reciprocate to huge volumes of imports from China.
Solomon Islands logs have been exported to China by mostly Malaysian logging operators.
Meanwhile, both Prime Minister Sogavare and Mr Genhua of the Chinese Embassy in Port Moresby agreed that although official relationship has not been established between Honiara and Beijing, trade relations have existed for many years.
And Mr Sogavare assured the Chinese delegation that although the two countries do not have formal established relations, there is nothing that will stop Chinese investors from investing in Solomon Islands.
