PRIME Minister Jeremiah Manele has commended citizens of the country, especially residents in Honiara for maintaining peace and calm during last week’s Motion of No Confidence.
PM and his Government for National Unity and Transformation (GNUT) survived the second attempts of motion by the mover-Member of Parliament for Central Honiara Gordon Darcy Lilo.
PM made the acknowledgement on the floor of parliament yesterday.
“I wish to thank the people in Solomon Islands for their calmness during the recent political situation,” he said.
PM was excited that the political impasses didn’t resort to riot or major destruction which usually occurred during the MONC.
“I am happy that the recent political impasse resolves itself without any major incident,” he said.
However, the jubilant PM was saddened that schools and businesses in Honiara were closed during the course of the motion.
“It is extremely unfortunate that schools and some business were closed during that for the motion of no confidence,” he added.
He also commended the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force for their tremendous effort to provide security during the motion.
“I thank the RSIPF for their heightened operation during this period. It cost us money but maintaining law and orders is important, especially for residents of Honiara,” he further added.
