The Jeremiah Manele-led regime will focus on several broad priority areas this year to address some of the country’s pressing challenges.
Prime Minister (PM) Manele confirmed this during his first press conference on Monday.
“At the same time, there continues to be strong public discussion on a range of national issues, including governance, service delivery, land, and the management of natural resources,” PM Manele said.
He said, the Government under this leadership recognises that these discussions reflect genuine public interest and concern, and they highlight the importance of acting carefully, lawfully, and in the national interest.
The PM said the Government is also mindful of broader challenges, including global economic pressures, cost-of-living concerns, climate impacts, and long-standing structural constraints.
“These factors inform how we plan, prioritise, and sequence our work during the year,” he said.
Against this backdrop, PM Manele said the Government’s attention in 2026 will be directed towards the following broad areas:
- Maintaining discipline in public financial management, with an emphasis on implementing approved programmes in line with budget provisions and ensuring that public resources are used responsibly and transparently.
- Continuing efforts to support productive and resource sectors, private-sector activity, and labour mobility opportunities, recognising their contributions to economic growth, livelihoods, employment, and household incomes.
- Progressing infrastructure and service delivery projects already underway, including in transport, energy, telecommunications, health, and education, as well as milestone development projects in preparation for the country’s 50th Independence anniversary.
- Continuing reforms to improve coordination, oversight, and accountability across government institutions, in accordance with the law and established processes.
