Prime Minister (PM) Jeremiah Manele, MP, is currently in Suva, Fiji, where he will participate in the 23rd Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Leaders’ Summit, scheduled to officially commence on Monday 23 June 2025.
The Summit, to be hosted under the theme “A Peaceful and Prosperous Melanesia”, brings together leaders and representatives from Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and the FLNKS of New Caledonia.
It is the highest decision-making body of the MSG and will deliberate on key regional issues including security cooperation, economic integration, sustainable ocean management, and cultural exchange.
The Prime Minister’s participation in the Summit follows his recent engagements in Europe, where he attended the United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice, France, and the OPEC Fund Development Forum in Vienna, Austria.
In Suva, the Prime Minister is expected to join regional counterparts in reaffirming Melanesian solidarity on pressing development and security challenges.
The Leaders’ Summit is also expected to formalise the handover of the MSG Chairmanship from Vanuatu
The MSG Leaders’ Summit is expected to conclude with a joint communiqué capturing shared outcomes and areas for ongoing cooperation.
