Prime Minister (PM) Jeremiah Manele does not operate any personal Facebook or Twitter accounts.
The Office of the Prime Minister (OPMC) issued the advisory after fake social media profiles using the Prime Minister’s name and photograph have been created with the sole intention of misleading the public.
Currently, OPMC manages two Facebook pages – the “Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Solomon Islands” and the recently created “Government Communication Unit.”
Both pages are in the process of obtaining verification and authentication so the public can easily distinguish the real pages from fake ones.
Other government ministries also operate Facebook pages, which are managed by their communication officers to ensure accurate information is shared with the public.
Given the Prime Minister’s position as a public figure, fake accounts are likely to continue appearing. While stopping all of them is difficult, members of the public are urged to be cautious when engaging with social media accounts claiming to represent the Prime Minister.
Fake profiles often lack the official verification badge, contain spelling mistakes and incomplete information, are newly created with few followers, and may send unsolicited private messages or friend requests.
If you encounter such profiles, do not share or believe their content and report them directly to the respective social media platform.
The Prime Minister does not send private messages or request assistance from individuals via social media.
