Prime Minister (PM) Jeremiah Manele marked his first official visit to Rennell and Bellona Province on Tuesday, 22nd July 2025.
This was during the province’s 32nd Second Appointed Day Anniversary at Tigoa.
During the celebration he pledged strong support for reform, justice, and development to the province.
In his address, the PM acknowledged long-standing challenges faced by the province, especially environmental damage caused by the Solomon Trader disaster.
He announced that the Government is partnering with top international law firm DLA Piper and the Pacific Legal Network to support the affected communities in their legal claim for compensation.
He also revealed Cabinet approval for a Commission of Inquiry and civil litigation against APID to recover unpaid royalties.
Additionally, nearly $3 million SBD in capital development projects were delivered across sectors including health, education, sanitation, and electrification.
“Rennell and Bellona is no longer just a remote province it is a symbol of resilience, reform, and results,” said PM Manele.
The PM praised the province’s reform leadership under the Alliance for Reform and Progress Government (ARPG), urging continued collaboration to sustain progress and strengthen local governance.
