Prime Minister (PM) Jeremiah Manele on Monday 25th August 2025 received on behalf of the Government of Solomon Islands 27 Tank 500HEV, RH Drive, 7-seater, 4WD SUVs donated by the Government of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) at the MID Transport Pool in Honiara.
The vehicles will support the hosting of the 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting from 8 to 12 September 2025.
Prime Minister Manele said the vehicles are part of a 40-vehicle fleet jointly procured by China and Solomon Islands to provide transport for Forum Leaders and other VVIP delegates.

The 27 vehicles, valued at approximately USD$1 million (SBD$8.5 million), together with 13 vehicles procured directly by the Solomon Islands Government, form a complete fleet to manage the transport and logistics of the Forum.
“These vehicles will ensure safe, reliable, and comfortable transport for all Pacific Forum Leaders and delegates attending the meeting,” the Prime Minister said.
He confirmed that the vehicles will become a legacy asset for the Solomon Islands, to be shared between provinces, the government transport pool, and ministries, with management under the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID).
The Prime Minister extended heartfelt gratitude to the Government and people of China, noting that the support “demonstrates the strong and enduring partnership between Solomon Islands and China.”

He also acknowledged the efforts of Solomon Islands officials, including its Embassy in Beijing, the Ministry of Finance, Customs, and the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, in securing, transporting, and preparing the vehicles for use.
Prime Minister Manele further thanked South Pacific Oil Limited (SPOL) for stepping in as the official fuel sponsor for the government fleet supporting the Pacific Water and Wastewater Ministers Meeting and the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting.
“With the support of China, our own government, and all partners involved, I am confident that Solomon Islands will deliver secure, efficient, and well-coordinated logistics for the 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting,” the Prime Minister said on Monday.
Members of the PRC Embassy, Cabinet Ministers and other government officials witnessed the handing over ceremony.
