Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has formally met the President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping at the State Guest House Villa 18 on Thursday in Beijing, China.
A statement from the Government Communication Unit reported in front of waiting camera crews, the two leaders shook hands, greeted each other before the President invited Mr Sogavare for a photo shoot before they went to hold discussions.
During their discussion the Prime Minister reaffirmed the political commitment of Solomon Islands to stand by its relationship with the People’s Republic of China.
The prime minister also highlighted the MoUs signed with the Premier Li Keqiang.
“The MoUs is centred on South- South Cooperation and it offers a new beginning in our relations, we are committed to draw on China’s development experience to plant seeds of progress and prosperity in Solomon Islands,” Prime Minister Sogavare stated.
He stated the MoUs deepens trust and prosperity between the two countries including establishing diplomatic presence in the respective capitals of both countries.
Mr Sogavare also acknowledged that the MoU addresses infrastructure needs including 2023 Pacific Games and Rural Constituency Development Fund (RCDF).
“Signing of the MoUs represents the future and a new dawn in our relations,” the Prime Minister ended.
Solomon Islands is the 179th country to recognize the One China policy in accordance to the UN Resolution 2758.
