PRIME Minister Manasseh Sogavare was among other regional leaders who were officially welcomed to the 46th Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Leaders Summit in Port Moresby on Monday night.
Mr Sogavare is attending the Summit with a 16-member delegation which is currently underway in Port Moresby.
Governor of Papua New Guinea’s National Capital District Powes Parkop welcomed Pacific Islands leaders and officials at a dinner hosted at the Crown Plaza Hotel.
Governor Parkop said “it was a pleasure as Governor of the National Capital District to welcome them to the city and Papua New Guinea at large for the significant pacific event.
“Let me join the hosts of this city and the Prime Minister and all leaders of this nation to welcome you to our National Capital District and to our country for the 46th Pacific Islands Forum. I am sure you will have a tiring but successful meeting,” he said.
The Governor said Port Moresby is a melting pot for Papua New Guinea with its rich cultural heritage and diversity and has so much to showcase to its Pacific neighbours and the world.
He said his country has successfully hosted the 15th Pacific Games this year and is pleased once again to play host to the 46th Pacific Islands Forum leaders’ summit.
The Governor said the 15th Pacific Games was a success because apart from the massive investment the PNG Government put into the hosting of the event, the people of the Pacific came together in the spirit of sportsmanship and friendship.
The summit is scheduled to start today.
