Party wrangling shakes DCC, source revealed
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has been pushed to the limit and only time will tell when he will execute his plans to undergo a mass sacking, an insider revealed.
The insider revealed that Mr Sogavare over the past few weeks have been under immense pressure as he has been forced to make some risky decisions in order to remain in charge of the Democratic Coalition for Change government (DCC).
The source revealed that Mr Sogavare is looking to sack some very prominent members of his Cabinet who has links with the Kadere Party.
However the source said, the Prime Minister is still cautious on how to carry out the sacking as his plans to gain support from a party on the other side of the house is not making headway.
“The Prime Minister is under pressure and only two things are likely to happen. It is either he removes Kadere Party or they remove him,” the source revealed.
The insider said, the mounting pressure to remove Kadere has also been forced upon the Prime Minister’s shoulder by UDP.
“The recent resignation from the members of the People Alliance Party (PAP) to join Kadere was a tip of the ice berg as Kadere is trying to gain numbers from within DCC itself to take over,” the insider said.
Mr Sogavare knows he was an independent candidate coming out of the election last year and only join UDP to be nominated as DCC candidate for the Prime Minister’s post.
“However his victory came with conditions that he must adhere to, to please each party and individuals.
“And that is why Mr Sogavare has become weak in his leadership because others are pulling the strings,” the source said.
A comment was sought from the PMO office as of Wednesday through Alfred Sasako but he said, he is not aware of it.
He said he will consult the Prime Minister before getting back but nothing was forthcoming.
