The country’s newly registered commercial bank – Pan Oceanic Bank (POB) has secured the service of a top information technology (IT) company in Sri Lanka to provide IT work for the bank here.
In a statement on Thursday the bank said Softlogic Information Technologies is one of the premier ICT companies in Sri Lanka and a pioneering subsidiary of Softlogic Holdings.
“It recently secured multi-million rupee project for the delivery and implementation of a core IT infrastructure to Pan Oceanic Bank (POB) in Solomon Islands.”
POB will be the country’s 4th commercial bank to provide a range of banking services to the public.
Commenting on the partnership, POB chief executive officer (CEO) Nihal Kekulawala said; “The bank was very particular in selecting the right partner and the POB team required the assistance of M/s. Global Management Consultants (GMC) who carefully evaluated all options before selecting the right partner.
The statement said Softlogic Information Technologies is regarded as one of the pioneers and innovators of the information technology industry in Sri Lanka.

He added that the team has designed a total high-available redundant IT infrastructure that will function 24×7 with no single point of failure.
“This means even if there is any single device failure in the banks IT infrastructure the proposed design will function without any interruption enabling the bank to conduct its business as usual & offer services to its customers. The system also provides a comprehensive disaster recovery plan to ensure all data of the bank is protected and replicated to a disaster recovery site to resume business within a matter of minutes.”

Meanwhile POB is all set to open its doors come May this year. POB’s chief who is currently in the country said they have recruited close to 20 locals to help pioneer the bank’s operation in Solomon Islands.
A number of expatriates have also been recruited to ensure the bank kicks off its operations as planned.
The bank is currently scouting for an office space in Honiara before rolling out its operations.
Mr Kekulawala told local media this week that they are committed to provide a service just like any other commercial banks.
He said more promotions and awareness about the bank will follow soon.
Central Bank last year granted an interim license for the bank to operate here. If it satisfies government and CBSI a long term license is expected to be granted.
