Auki Police have arrested a 37-year-old male person for selling kwaso (homebrew) in Auki town recently.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) of Malaita Province, Superintendent Michael Ramosaea, said the arrests were made while police officers were on foot beat patrol in the Auki township.
PPC Ramosaea said the suspect was seen with a bag filled with kwaso in front of the Harbour Light shop, and they arrested him.
Superintendent Ramosaea said while searching his bag, police officers found six 1.5 liters of kwaso and four 600 ml bottles of kwaso.
PPC Supervisor Ramosaea said the suspect was brought to the police station and placed in police custody for further dealings.
Mr. Ramosaea said the suspect was charged with the offense of selling liquor without a license, contrary to section 59(2) of the Liquor Act.
The suspects have been released on principal bail to appear before the Auki Magistrate on 17 February 2026.
“It is a reminder to the people who had engaged in the illegal brewing and sales of kwaso and even the black market. Police will take serious action to curb those illegal activities. We knew that the end result of kwaso was not good for all,” said PPC Ramosaea.
The Provincial Police Chief kindly seeks the cooperation of community leaders, parents, and those who are responsible to take strong measures to reduce the illegal activity by reporting such activities to the police.
