POLICE have been conducting awareness programs in settlements in and around Honiara and Guadalcanal over the past week.
Deputy Police Commissioner Juanita Matanga said last week the community policing team went out to Komate area at Weathercoast, Guadalcanal, to conduct awareness program.
She said this followed request from the villagers in that area there who are experiencing anti-social behaviour in recent times in their communities.
“Our community policing officers went to Komate and basically talked about Kwaso, Domestic Violence, Marijuana and anti-social behaviour issues,” Ms Matanga said.
“We will continue to do a lot of awareness program because it is important to remind people the importance of us living in a cohesive way,” she added.
“Only that will help us live peacefully in our society.”
Ms Matanga added that on Sunday and Monday officers went to the local communities at Burns Creek, Lungga, White River, Kakabona and Fulisango.
She said they tried talking with the people in those areas about issues that will continue to cause unacceptable behaviour in the communities.
The deputy police chief added that police will continue to talk about the illegal manufacturing of Kwaso.
“I want to urge those people involving in these types of activities to stop because it will not do anything good for us but only cause problems in our society.
“As we all know a lot of incidents that police face in terms of Kwasoare quite sad to see.
“This sort of behaviour affects young people.
“We are asking people to work together so that we continue to build our nation so our people can live peacefully.”
